How Long It Takes To Paint A House Interior And Exterior

Knowing how long something takes can help you better prepare for it. This is especially true if you won’t have access to your kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom for a few days. In this post, you can discover how long it takes us to paint a room, a whole interior, an exterior, and to refinish cabinets. You can also find out the main factors that could affect the timeline.

Preparation Is Key

How Long It Takes To Refinish Cabinets

It takes about 2 to 2-and-a-half days to refinish cabinets. The main factor that changes the timeline is kitchen size.

Size. Bigger kitchens tend to have more cabinets to paint or stain. More to paint means we need more time to do your project successfully. This can also affect the cost of refinishing cabinets.

How Long It Takes To Paint A Room

It can take us about half a day to paint a room in a home. This is just for the walls and ceilings. It’ll take a full day to paint walls, ceilings, baseboards, trims, and doors. This is the usual timeline unless something unexpected happens.

If something unexpected happens, such as we find some damages like nicks, we’ll talk with you about what you’d like to do.

How Long It Takes To Paint The Exterior Of A House

It takes about 4 to 5 days to paint or stain the exterior of a house. If you want us to paint a deck as well it’ll add 1 to 2 days. The timeline can change mainly due to house size, excessive damage repair, the number of coats, and weather.

• Size. Larger homes take longer to paint. There’s just more that needs to be done and it takes longer to do.
• Excessive damage repair. We can repair a lot of the damages we come across, which is mostly carpentry. If we or other tradesmen need to perform repairs, those need to happen before continuing to paint.
• The number of coats. You could ask for one coat. This can work if you just want to refresh your exterior to keep it looking fresh. Some exteriors need two coats. This could be due to color change or it needs it so it looks like new again.
• Weather. Painting in bad weather isn’t good for anyone. Your house wouldn’t look good, we’d lose materials, and nobody would be happy. It’s best to get it done slower but better.

And adding deck work or other exterior work will also extend the timeline.

How Long It Takes To Paint A House Interior

It takes about 3 to 6 days to paint an entire house interior. It mainly depends on house size, if anything needs woodwork, adding closets, adding the garage, wallpaper removal, excessive repairs, challenging access, and large vaulted ceilings.

• House size. Larger interiors take more time to paint because there’s more to do. Smaller house interiors are less challenging time-wise.
• Anything needs woodwork. Carpentry is a separate process and skill. It can’t be done at the same time as painting, making it lengthen the amount of time it takes to paint a house interior.
• Adding closets. Closets are an extra space outside of the main walls of a room. They always seem to add on more time.
• Adding the garage. Garages extend the timeline for the same reasons as closets.
• Wallpaper removal. Removing wallpaper needs to happen before we can paint. It’s a separate process and can tack on extra time.
• Excessive repairs. Larger repairs take longer amounts of time.
• Challenging access. If it’s hard for us to get somewhere, whether it’s tall or cramped, then it’ll take longer to finish painting.
• Large vaulted ceilings. We have to go up ladders, paint what we can reach, go back down, reposition, and repeat. Our team also needs to be careful since they’ll be so high up.
